How to Reconstitute Research Peptides
A clear, step-by-step overview of bringing a lyophilized research peptide into solution — for laboratory use only.
What reconstitution means
Research peptides ship as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder for stability. Reconstitution is the process of dissolving that powder in a suitable diluent — most commonly bacteriostatic water (BAC water) — to create a measured solution for research.
What you need
- The lyophilized peptide vial
- Bacteriostatic water as the diluent
- A sterile syringe and alcohol swabs
Step by step
- 1. Sanitize. Swab the rubber stopper of both the peptide vial and the BAC water vial.
- 2. Draw diluent. Withdraw your chosen volume of bacteriostatic water into the syringe.
- 3. Add slowly. Insert the needle at an angle and let the water run down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder.
- 4. Dissolve gently. Swirl — do not shake — until the solution is clear.
- 5. Store. Refrigerate the reconstituted vial and keep it away from light.
Calculating concentration
Concentration is simply the peptide mass divided by the diluent volume. For example, adding 2 mL of BAC water to a 5 mg vial yields 2.5 mg/mL. Each Glow Lab Protocols product page lists a suggested reconstitution volume.
